Making the Pipe Pistol Wooden Part

The wood was cut straight from 60x42mm pine. These dimensions are already close to what I want, and since making the deep holes for the barrel are the most difficult part of the project, I want a softer wood which wont fight against the direction I'm trying to drill.

First need to drill the hole. I used a 1/8" long bit in the lathe to set straight pilot holes. Used the cross-slide as a crude guide rail used the good old 'biceps clamps' method to hold it down.

Next used an Auger bit to drill out the 16mm for the pipe. I want to go in 210mm, which is just past the end of the flutes. My shitty corded Ryobi drill sparked and heated up, but the 18V Dewalt took it on with no problem.

After this the table saw was set up with some measurements laid out to make the main cuts in the part I want to clear out. Then after a bit of chiseling the barrel holder section is looking good. It is difficult to get the 16mm hole straight, but as long as the left/right alignment is fine everything is ok. If it's crooked in the up/down direction I can fix it by running it through the table saw again and cutting it square relative to the new direction. Using a lerger drill to do the pilot holes next time should fix this problem.

So the final step for the wood is to mill out and drill sections in the back where I will install the firing mechanism, then use the drum sander to shape the top and bottom edges wavy like the image. All sanding will be done at no finer than 120grit, I want the wood to be rough and distressed.

A darker stain was applied and that's the wood done!
