Make Nerf Firing Mechanism

So what I will do is use the placement of the bolts in the original screenshots, and design a mechanism around the way the gun moves in the game animations. A spring-plunger will be loaded by sliding the bolt which sticks out the side of the gun barrel. At the back of the plunger I will have a bit with a notch that can catch onto a trigger attached to the 3 bolts near the back of the pistol. Hopefully it is obvious what I'm trying to do from the pictures.

The front part of the plunger is turned from delrin, which turns and taps holes easy without melting. The main parts of the mechanism is turned from brass. Brass was chosen because 1) It turns real easy on the mini lathe, 2) It slides well with little friction and 3) I can get the stock already in the diameters I want to save on the machining needed.

I can't recommend enough the lathe collet chuck and the collet block I have set up on the mill. The biggest problem with the mini machines is rigidity, and these eliminate heaps of problems with that.

When loosely fitting the parts things look ok. I have managed to make it so it takes a minimum amount of machining, so I should have no problem making up the parts in quantity. I have all the steel I need for the rest of the gun so hopefully tomorrow I can do all the final work.
